The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai will soon meet Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri to discuss the spat between Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli. Kumble stepped down as India coach on Tuesday after falling out with skipper Kohli.Johri has sought a detailed report from team manager Kapil Malhotra. Johri will then submit the report to Rai, who will then discuss Kumble’s unceremonious exit. The meeting on June 24 will then decide the future course of action and will also invite fresh applications to for the post of head coach.Kumble’s original contract expired with the team’s Champions Trophy campaign, but the former captain was tipped to get an extension after enjoying a successful run during his year in charge.Last year the BCCI formed the CAC, comprising former players Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, who chose Kumble for the job. The trio will also oversee the selection process of the new coach, who is expected to be named before India start their tour of Sri Lanka in July.WATCH VIDEO HEREIndia travel to Sri Lanka next month for a full-fledged tour from July 26 to September 6. The teams will play three Tests, five ODIs and a T20 International.Local media has reported that Kohli found Kumble’s brand of coaching a bit too assertive and their relationship was beyond repair. The BCCI invited applications for the role last month and Kumble had re-applied for the same.In the last one year, the former leg-spinner, also India’s most successful bowler, led the country to 12 victories in 17 tests with just one loss.advertisementHe also guided India to one-day international series wins over New Zealand and England with losses coming only in a Twenty20 series against the West Indies and in last week’s Champions Trophy final, where they lost to Pakistan.”While the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had endorsed an extension to his tenure as head coach, Anil Kumble has decided not to continue as the coach,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement. However, Kumble in a statement, said he had decided to resign because Kohli had reservations about his style of coaching.”I was informed for the first time yesterday by the BCCI that the Captain had reservations with my ‘style’ and about my continuing as the Head Coach. I was surprised since I had always respected the role boundaries between Captain and Coach. Though the BCCI attempted to resolved the misunderstandings between the Captain and me, it was apparent that the partnership was untenable, and I therefore believe it is best for me to move on.”Five men had been shortlisted for the next coach a few weeks back – Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus and Dodda Ganesh. The Cricket Advisory Committee had backed Kumble to continue but it emerged Sehwag was their next best option. However, it has been also been learnt that the players want former team director Ravi Shastri back at the helm.
