The Webby Awards—the “Internet’s highest honor” according to the New York Times—today announced its nominees for this year’s best magazine Web site.The five candidates in the running for this international award include Interview, Dwell.com, JPG, T Magazine and TheAtlantic.com. “The Web is now the dominant force reshaping everything from business to popular culture,” said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. “We are thrilled to now honor the magazine innovators who are taking the medium in exciting new creative directions.” Each Webby Award category receives two distinct awards: the first presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 650-person judging academy with members including David Bowie, Arianna Huffington and Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone, and the other, The Webby People’s Voice Awards, chosen by public online voting beginning today through April 30. She had been senior vice president, content creator, business development and operations, at Mode Media. The Board of Directors of Boston Common Press, the parent company of America’s Test Kitchen, has announced that Jack Bishop has been promoted to chief creative officer. Bishop, a frequent on-air personality for the America’s Test Kitchen television programs, is a founding member of the Cook’s Illustrated team and has served as editorial director for the company’s magazine, book, and digital businesses for the past decade. Bishop joined the staff of Cook’s Magazine in 1988 and helped launch Cook’s Illustrated in 1993. Last September, he was named executive web editor, a title that reflected his increased responsibilities of running their site and shaping digital presentation. In this new position, Kearney will take an expanded role in managing the New Republic’s growing team, plotting overall editorial strategy, and overseeing the creation of the brand’s journalism. Kiera Aaron has been named deputy digital editor at Shape and Fitness. She had been senior digital editor at Fitness. Ryan Kearney has been named executive editor for digital at the New Republic. Kearney has been with the brand for three years, first joining in October 2012 as a story editor. Additionally, Ryu Spaeth will be joining as a deputy editor. He’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of the New Republic’s site. Spaeth joins from TheWeek.com, where as a deputy editor he overhauled their site, expanded coverage, and grew their audience. He previously has worked at Time and HarperCollins Publishers. Stacey Wilson Hunt has been named Hollywood editor at New York Magazine. She had been awards and special projects editor at The Hollywood Reporter. Chelsea Matiash has been named multimedia/photo editor at Time. She had been photo editor at The Wall Street Journal. Kim Caviness has joined Imagination as executive vice president and chief content officer. Caviness will be responsible for leading Imagination’s content organization. She joins Imagination from McMurry/TMG in Washington, D.C., a leading national content strategy firm where she has been chief content officer since 2013. Kolkata: The CBI told the Calcutta High Court on Friday that it needed at least another three months to conclude its probe in the Narada sting operation case. The agency filed a progress report in the investigation in the case before the court on Friday. After hearing the CBI counsel’s submissions, Justice Joymalyo Bagchi directed the central probe agency to file another report after six weeks, stating the progress made in the probe. CBI counsel Amajit De submitted that efforts were on to access the contents of an iPhone, which was allegedly used to carry out the sting operation and the agency would require at least another three months to conclude the probe. In the sting operation, which was claimed to have been carried out in 2014, some persons resembling senior TMC leaders are seen accepting money from the representatives of a fictitious company in return for favours. The maximum sentence for these crimes ranges from five to seven years of imprisonment. Those against whom the CBI has registered the FIR include Mukul Roy, who is now in the BJP, and TMC Lok Sabha MPs Saugata Roy, Poddar, Prasun Banerjee and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. West Bengal ministers, including Firhad Hakim, Suvendu Adhikari, Sovan Chatterjee and Subrata Mukherjee, have also been named in the FIR. Former state minister Madan Mitra, MLA Iqbal Ahmed and IPS officer Saiyaad Mustafa Hussain Mirza have also been named as accused in the case. The sting operation was carried out by the editor of web portal Naradanews.com, Mathew Samuel, who claimed to have used an iPhone for the purpose. The contents of the phone were subsequently transferred to a laptop and stored in a pen drive.
