Sunset Overdrive Could Continue Outside of Microsoft Says Insomniac

first_imgStay on target Sunset Overdrive is one of the strongest Xbox One exclusive games of this generation. Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly a big seller. This is probably why there hasn’t been a sequel even more than two years after its initial release. However, all hope is not lost for the future of Sunset Overdrive.Game Informer asked Insomniac Games’ president Ted Price why there hasn’t been any word on a sequel to the game. He replied with: “You’d have to ask Microsoft.” Considering how Sunset Overdrive is an Xbox exclusive title, it is ultimately up to Microsoft to green light a sequel. However, it seems that the franchise can continue, even without Microsoft.“We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more Sunset in the future from us,” said Price. “No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences.”It’s possible that Microsoft and Insomniac have a timed exclusivity deal for the Sunset Overdrive franchise. If that is the case, then it is only a matter of time before it expires. At that point, Insomniac could produce Sunset games for competing systems like the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Curiously, a PC port of Sunset hasn’t been released. This is odd considering Microsoft’s renewed interest in that platform. Will we ever get another Sunset Overdrive in the future? Who knows? But as a fan of the franchise, I would love to see it released on multiple consoles so that it could reach more folks. In my opinion, Sunset Overdrive is one of this generation’s gems and deserves all of the attention it can get. Insomniac has been a busy studio as of late, but I’m sure they can produce more Sunset games if given a chance.
