Indian players and fans racially taunted at MCG, sections of crowd warned

(AP Photo)A section of the crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was warned after racial slurs targeted att the Indian players and fans during the Boxing Day Test.India are 346 runs ahead after three days of attritional cricket against Australia. The players have been involved in some heated verbal battles but no incident has been reported to match officials – both teams have accepted that their players and the opposition have been well within the lines.However, there were concerns over racial chants from spectators at MCG’s Bay 13. Certain people shouted “show us your visa” and the racial slurs reportedly carried on for two days.A formal complaint was lodged with Cricket Australia.Cricket Australia has handed over footage of the chant to Victoria Police and the management at MCG.A CA spokesperson said police are now monitoring the behaviour of the crowd in the the concerned section of the stadium: “Victoria Police and stadium security are monitoring the behaviour of the crowd in that section of the stadium and have had several discussions with those fans in that bay to remind them about appropriate crowd behaviour, as per venue entry terms and conditions.”India vs Australia, Boxing Day Test: DAY 3 REPORT | HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARDCA has now issued a warning to spectators in Bay 13 – they said if the racial chants did not stop the entire bay would be asked to leave the ground.Cricket boards across the board take racial abuse very seriously.”Across the world, cricket has a rich and diverse history and regularly demonstrates its capacity to break down boundaries and draw cultures together.
