SAN DIEGO — San Diego State’s Cox Arena, site of UCLA’s first-round NCAA Tournament game, was evacuated at approximately 9:40 a.m. Thursday when a bomb-sniffing dog detected something suspicious at a hot-dog counter near the north concourse of the arena, according to Lorena Nava, a SDSU media relations specialist. The first-round game between Marquette and Alabama started 70 minutes late. UCLA’s game against Belmont, originally scheduled to tip at about 2 p.m., started at about 3:20 p.m. According to Nava, the San Diego Police Department’s Metro Arson Strike Team was called in to investigate the situation. ”None of the teams were in the arena at the time, but of course, it was still two hours before game time,” Nava said.
