Weber State Football Hosts Maine Friday

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailOGDEN, Utah-Friday, the Weber State football team hosts Maine as the squad has advanced to the NCAA FCS quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.The #2 seeded Wildcats will be on ESPN-2 Friday evening against the Black Bears as they play for the right to advance to the FCS semifinals.The Wildcats are the winner of seven straight games, the third-longest streak in school history.The Black Bears come into Stewart Stadium as the #7 seeded team in FCS after routing Jacksonville State 55-27 last Saturday at Orono, Maine.Maine represents the Colonial Athletic Association and this is the third time in history, the Wildcats have faced an opponent from that league, but their first game against the Black Bears.The Wildcats lost to William & Mary in the first round of the 2009 playoffs and to James Madison last year in the FCS quarterfinals.Weber State has won nine straight home games (their second-longest streak in school history) and 11 of their last 12 contests at Stewart Stadium.The Black Bears are led by quarterback Chris Ferguson (166-287, 1,877 yards, 18 TD’s/9 INT’s), receiver Earnest Edwards (46 rec, 722 yards, 9 TD’s) and tailback Ramon Jefferson (156 car, 884 yards, 7 TD’s).Defensively, linebacker Sterling Sheffield, leads the Black Bears with 8.5 sacks. Fellow linebacker, Canadian national Deshawn Stevens, has 8 sacks to further bolster the Maine defense. Defensive back Richard Carr has a team-best three interceptions for the Black Bears.
