The Wellington Police Department is estimating the damage at $35,000.Wellington Fire Chief Tim Hay said a grease fire in the kitchen caused the house at the Hamel addition in southeast Wellington to eventually be engulfed in flames. At about 4 p.m. Hay said a family member was heating the oven to cook fish and temporarily left the kitchen. When the person returned the kitchen cabinets and wall surface were on fire.“There were three or four people in the house at the time,†Hay said. “They escaped unharmed.â€At 4:12 p.m. 12 firefighters from the Wellington, Mayfield and Belle Plaine Fire Departments arrived on the scene at the East Lincoln home at the Hamel addition in southeast Wellington and found the one-story house with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the home.As firefighters began their attack through the front door, flames extended through the door and front windows. They worked their way through the home. The fire had extended into the attic and a hole had to be cut in the side of the house to apply water into the attic area.During the operation an unnamed firefighter fell from a ladder and received an injury to the foot. He was taken to Sumner Regional Medical Center and released. Hay said a hose line may have knocked the ladder down for which the firefighter was perched at the time. The fire was declared under control at 5:57 p.m. The firefighters eventually left the scene at 6:37 p.m.It was a hectic day for emergency personnel. During the incident, firefighters also responded to two medical calls and the transfer was referred to Belle Plaine EMS.There was extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the home. The home was uninsured. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.“They are staying with family,†Hay said of Tate and her family members, who were uprooted due to the fire.People can log onto http://www.gofundme.com/ew5vuc to make a donation. On the website it states:“Our mother/grandmother Wanda has tragically lost her home and all of her beloved possessions in a fire that destroyed all she had. It truly hurts to see this wonderful lady go thru the pain and agony of losing everything. Grandma (Wanda) raised her children, grandchildren, some greats and a few great greats at this location. I know god will never put her thru anything you she can’t handle but she is in desperate need of assistance. If there is anything this community can do to help it would be greatly be appreciated. Grandma has lost everything so anything helps, it’s truly not just about money. The lawyer representing Musa Bility has again failed to appear before the Tax Court to complete the full payment of US$47,700, which constitutes 25% of US$190,800 tax due government. The money also includes 6 percent interest, according to the Tax Court at the Temple of Justice.Cllr. Theophilus Gould, representing Bility, was expected to appear at the court on October 24 to make final payment of the 25 percent tax debt, but to date Cllr. Gould is yet to do so.Interestingly, the Court is relenting to compel Bility to pay government’s legitimate tax. Bility is the owner of Gulf Trading and Srimex Enterprises and president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA).A similar request was made on August 6, 2012, when Bility’s lawyer assured the court that they were going to pay the amount of US$47,700 which constitutes 25 percent of the total judgment of US$190,800.He has paid US$25,000 out of the US$47,700.At the court hearing last week, Cllr. Gould again pleaded for October 24 to complete the payment of the remaining US$ 22,700.Pleading at the court hearing, Cllr. Gould was heard saying ” Due to arrangements put in place to ensure payment is made on October 24, after which other appropriate measures will be taken to settle the full amount.”However, Cllr. Gould and Bility are yet to appear before the court to complete the 25 percent payment.Their latest action came as a result of a request by government lawyers praying the court to order the immediate closure of the company. In their request, government lawyers contend that because of Bility’s “blatant failure and refusal” to pay its legitimate tax dating from the court’s judgment in 2012 up to present, that his company face immediate closure. In 2012, the court declared the company liable (guilty) in the amount of US$180,000, after Bility admitted to evading tax payments for several years. The case started on May 3, 2010 when government filed a complaint against Gulf Trading and Srimex Enterprises, claiming that the company failed to pay overdue and outstanding duties owed in the amount of US$180,000 including 6 percent interest.Bility admitted to the allegation and made stipulation on how he would pay the money.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)
