first_imgIt has been a year since world cricket’s biggest superstar, Virat Kohli tied the knot with Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma in a private ceremony in Tuscany, Italy. The wedding, as expected, made headlines. Even as the two celebrities didn’t divulge details about their private ceremony, rumour mills were busy in the lead up to the big day – December 11, 2017.When the photos of the celebrated couple in their wedding outfits from Tuscany hit the social media, the wedding was made “official”.Kohli took an extended break after a busy home season in 2017. So did Anushka as the power couple spent a honeymoon in Finland. A couple of wedding receptions, including the glitzy one in Mumbai, followed. Nonetheless, the Delhi batsman continued his scoring ways, scoring 286 runs to top the batting charts.India though thrashed the hosts in a six-match ODI series and captain Kohli once again topped the charts, this time amassing 558 runs, including three centuries at a staggering average of 186.In fact, Kohli dedicated his Test ton in Centurion to his wife by kissing the wedding ring that he wears on a chain around his neck. After the tour, Kohli opened up on his partner’s contribution during their stay in South Africa.”People who contribute off the field they deserve a lot of credit as well. My wife who keeps me motivated deserves a lot of credit. She’s been criticized a lot in the past. But she’s one person who’s kept me going throughout the tour,” Kohli said after leading India to a 5-1 win in the ODI series.advertisement Virat Kohli waged lone battles with the bat during India’s overseas tours of South Africa and England in 2018 (Reuters Photo)Kohli had even called Anushka, his “lady luck” during his appearance on Breakfast with Champions last year. “Sir lady luck ka kamaal hai (I’ve got to thank the lady luck). You’ve (Gaurav) seen me, you know I had no brains before. Ever since the lady has come into my life, she’s taught me a lot of things.”The lady luck though didn’t work Kohli’s way in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where his side, Royal Challengers Bangalore have perennially struggled. The Bangalore-based franchise finished sixth after failing to gain any momentum throughout the league. The RCB skipper though had a decent outing with the bat, scoring 381 runs at 48.01.Soon after, Kohli returned to England wherein he had a disastrous tour in 2014. The right-hander had managed only 134 in 10 innings and Anushka, who had accompanied him during the initial part of the tour, came under enormous scrutiny as well. However, in 2018, it was a completely different story. With Anushka watching him from the stands, Kohli made sure he had plenty of opportunities to kiss his wedding ring as he went on a record-breaking spree. He has been able to spend time with his wife, who leads a busy life of her own. The superstar cricket hasn’t missed an opportunity to acknowledge his wife’s contribution over the last year or so.Anushka is in Australia now. She has joined her husband for their wedding anniversary in Australia wherein Kohli’s team ended a 10-year-wait for a Test win Down Under.Kohli missed out on a big knock in Adelaide but with Anushka back in the stands, expect a few big ones and some flying kisses in the coming weeks.Kohli’s stats from December 11, 2017 Tests 11; Innings 20; Runs 1100; Highest 153; Average 55; Centuries 4; Fifties 4ODIs 14; Runs 1202; Highest 160, Average 133.55; Centuries 6; Fifties 3T20Is 10; Innings 9; Runs 211; Highest 61; Average 30.14; Centuries 0; Fifties 1advertisementIPL matches 14; Runs 381; Highest 92; Average 48.1; Centuries 0; Fifties 4\Also Read | I wasn’t very practical, my wife changed me a lot: Virat KohliAlso Read | Alyssa Healy takes a dig at Mitchell Johnson for criticising husband Starc on airAlso Read | Saw Kohli and his wife give up business class seats for India pacers: Michael VaughanAlso See:last_img read more
